Now Lensing Media can report the news 24/7 with less risk of cyberthreats – and lower security costs
With a leading portfolio of digital and print titles, Lensing Media is one of the largest media companies in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany. Challenged by the complexity, cost, and latency of its VPN connectivity, the organisation unleashed the power of platformization. A simple, integrated Palo Alto Networks solution now connects 1,300 mobile users to news media resources and ensures 24/7 news reporting.
Implemented in collaboration with Palo Alto Networks Professional Services experts, this platform approach has reduced Lensing Media’s cost of security while delivering a consistently rewarding experience.
Lack of security visibility and control over mobile users
Connectivity issues were hampering Lensing’s gathering of 24/7 news. A reliance on multiple split tunnels resulted in minimal cybersecurity protection and visibility of 1,300 endpoints. All traffic passed through the data centre.
- Ensure threat-free, uninterrupted, 24/7 availability of digital, print, and broadcast media to millions of customers in Germany.
- Increase cybersecurity protection and visibility of over 1,300 mobile journalists and other staff working with split tunnels.
- Remove reliance on expensive multiprotocol label switching (MPLS), EtherConnect, and virtual private network (VPN) connections for traffic to pass through the data centre.
- Simplify the complex cloud traffic routing via data centre to AWS, Azure, GCP, and other cloud resources.
“Professional Services – I don’t know when they slept”
Lensing Media adopted a platform approach to cybersecurity, using the simple, connected Palo Alto Networks network security platform to ensure nonstop news reporting operations across the North Rhine-Westphalia region.
Some 1,300 mobile users rely on Prisma Access for fast, easy connectivity to cloud and other resources. A Zero Trust architecture blends least-privileged access with continuous verification and ongoing security inspection to protect all of Lensing Media’s users, devices, and apps. Single pane-of-glass visibility and management ensures complete control over connectivity security, and the user experience is second to none. According to Christian Liedtke, Head of IT Infrastructure at Lensing Media, “The experience is the same, whether the user is in Starbucks, at home or in an airport.”
This modern network security platform is integrated with two ML-Powered Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) in an active/passive configuration. The appliances secure all traffic, including encrypted traffic, allowing Lensing Media to prevent unknown threats and see and secure everything on the network. Prisma SASE and the ML-Powered NGFWs natively integrate Cloud-Delivered Security Services (CDSS), offering consistent protection everywhere in Lensing Media’s environment, no matter what the application.
The entire project was architected and implemented by Palo Alto Networks Professional Services. Christian comments, “The execution by Professional Services was first class. We had two engineers working almost nonstop. I don’t know when they slept.”
"Our 1,300 mobile users are 1,300 mousetraps for threat actors. Prisma Access gives complete, trusted protection to those 1,300 staff and a great connectivity experience. People ask me whether I would buy Palo Alto Networks a second time. My answer every time is ‘yes’."
